CONDO LIVING

Instead of seeing things right in front of you, I often see them from my window or balcony. City lights, long traffic lines, and the horizon, are things I am definitely used to seeing. Waking up early is not an easy task, yet the beautiful view from the east, reminds me of how it isn’t that bad living in a condominium. I grew up living in high-rise buildings so I was used to seeing city lights and buildings at a young age. Even when I left Singapore for Manila, my parents still chose that we stay at a condominium. Honestly, I was annoyed since I really wanted to live in a house and have my own garden or even a place to play volleyball, but sadly - It was not part of the options.
Living in a condo, all my life - it had its flaws but mostly, perks, and I will share some of them. First would be convenience in traveling to certain parts of Manila. I’m near the LRT station and my school. If I had no other choice of commuting, I could just ride the LRT and off I go. Living near the school also meant I did not need to wake up so early, but I still had to watch the time, because of the elevator.
For comfort, I was used to living with my parents, but upon entering the 9th grade, it was just me and my sister, so we found our own source of content and comfort zone in the place. We were not used to hearing noise all throughout the day, so living in silence was kind of a shock for both of us, but somehow I still felt at ease and I immediately know that I am home upon hearing those.
It taught me independence and bravery. Living without parents, forced me to make decisions in terms of grocery, expenses, bills and wants. Budgeting was also stressful yet at the end of the day, we would manage. I learned how to cook my own meals, prepare the next day’s lunch and even clean the house without a maid.
Although some might think that it is sad living in a building and being alone, it really is not. I found out how strong and brave I was because of it. But most of all, I became independent, something I am definitely proud of.
