The Women’s Collegiate Sports Association (WCSA) held its opening ceremony last November 24, 2018 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. St. Scholastica’s College Manila was the host of the season with the theme: “Kababaihan, Kapatiran, Kahusayan”. This season aims to show the greatness and sportsmanship of every women athlete from the different schools.
The participating schools were Assumption College, Miriam College, Enderun Colleges, Philippine Women’s University, San Beda College Alabang, University of Asia and Pacific, and St. Scholastica’s College Manila.
The opening ceremony started with an introduction and parade of athletes from the engaging schools. It was followed by the opening remarks from St. Scholastica’s College Manila and the oath taking of the athletes led by Heidi Rivera. To rightfully start the event, the cheer dance competition began with an opening ceremony. There were six schools competing. A total of 10 members from Danz Edge, the dance group from St. Scholastica’s College Manila, were chosen to participate in the competition. ORAcle had the chance to interview one of the Danz Edge members, Clarisse Aldana, about their preparation and experience before the competition.
“We trained and trained and trained. But of course, we never forget to rest because rest is definitely important. Pinanood din namin yung previous performances ng cheer dance sa wcsa just for motivation.” Aldana said in the interview.
All the struggles and hard work of the team were replaced by a bronze medal since they placed third out of the six competing schools.
“I always believed that we were going to place somewhere in the competition. Nevertheless, it was still overwhelming and exciting that we won. It was like all our hard work paid off and we have God to thank for that, for giving us the talent and the motivation as well as our hardworking coach,” she said.
University of Asia and Pacific placed second and Miriam College was declared the champion.
